Note Boat

Postby Andi » Thu Sep 11, 2008 4:33 pm

Today I played a bit with the Note Boat game and I must say that the imput via the keyboard is much more comfortable than the "drag and drop" in the beta-version.But one point is still annoying: Sometimes I realize that I’ve hit the wrong key. When I immediately correct my choice with the backspace-key I might miss the next notes of the continuing “melody”. Now I have to listen to the entire row of notes again.

Some kind of a pause and continue function like on a cassette recorder - perhaps even a <<and>> button – would solve this problem. Another improvement would be a function to skip the animation when you press the launch-button. A simple right or wrong–display would do the job.

By the way: why isn’t there a Note-Boat-Forum on your homepage?

Again, that's not a bug, it's a feature. The point is to listen to an entire stream of sounds. I already compromised in making it possible to stop the stream partway through, but making it possible to start from a random position would defeat the purpose-- at least, the purpose as I currently understand it, which is still fairly vaguely defined and which, in turn, is why I haven't made too much noise about it (including not having a Note Boat section, which I should probably add).

keyboard config

Hi!
Chris i was wondering, what would be your recommended keyboard configuration in note boat?
I think mine won't be ok, because pretty soon my I'll reach the point where the chord keys will be the same as my first 'note key'.

hi balkoka!
You don't need a "chord-key". Just type in the chord's arpeggio!

You have to input arpeggios and full chords also. Depends on what you hear

I can't input an arpeggio when I hear a chord - it doesn't let me. Can you?

I think the older versions allowed arpeggios to be entered for chords, but that's been changed.

Why has this been changed. It was a feature, not a bug!

There was a functional reason for it that I can't remember off-hand-- that is, something about it interfered with the program logic, when an arpeggio was substituted for a chord (or vice versa). I realize that it's kind of a gimme that you actually can't input an arpeggio for a chord, but it seemed a reasonable concession.
