I put the kibosh on the Realbasic error of using the wrong MP3 temp file. It's not a solution I like, but it is a solution.
The solution was to place all the MP3 tones outside of the program, in a "tones" folder, rather than embed them all within the .exe (or .app for Mac, natch). This way they will be loaded upon use, and Realbasic will not create temp files because they're already external.
I don't like having them susceptible to being deleted, altered, or misplaced, but the alternative is to have tones randomly swapped around on unpredictable occasions, and that has been annoying.
