Do Doppler and/or Haas effects cause semitone errors?

Postby BigRed » Mon May 24, 2010 3:09 pm

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I was wondering: Is there any correlation between the psychoacoustic Doppler and/or Haas effects and the tendency to commit semitone errors?

The idea came to me suddenly while I was "guess-and-check"-ing (practicing my absolute note singing skills) at the piano. I make a lot of semitone and quartertone errors, although I'm getting better all the time! It seems that the position of my head makes subtle changes in frequency, and not-so-subtle changes in perceived timbre. Except, of course, when I use headphones. :P

I immediately did a google search with many different search terms, but couldn't find any info confirming/contradicting this idea.
