Where are the notes?

Postby muselaar » Thu Oct 22, 2009 5:49 am

Hello,
I'm able to identify a single note without much difficulty,
but in a musical context I'm lost, like everyone else here I suppose...
I've read lots of forums and testimony of people who have absolute pitch,
and I discovered that they don't think like what you read on all these scam methods : 'I hear a certain quality of that note so it is an A'
NO, they hear the note directly, without thinking, they hear it like you hear the lyrics in a song.
So I was wondering;
How did they gained that ability at a young age (5 years old),
while attending to a regular music course?
And why others do not?

In your Absolute Pitch Avenue, you can hear a trigger melody,
and see a red color, but where is the C?
How can you attach the name 'Ciiiiiii' to the sound if you
never think of it?

My theory is that AP posessors have perfect pitch because
they learned to hear the notes actively, they automatized
at a young age to sing mentally the name of the notes they play,
and they continued to do it outside of the music course,
at every moment of the day, unconciously.

I am trying to do this same method at the moment, I sing in my head every notes I play,
and when I listen to music I force me to read the sheets and do the same.
I think that we just have a lazy brain.

But there is a quality(chroma) for each categorized pitch, which is why people with great senses of pitch can identify/categorize them instantly ('absolute pitchers' absolute is misleading I think because even people who can say they have absolute pitch do not have a perfect sense of pitch, just a very great one for a human to have)

Sorry I rushed myself :? I had not seen all your site..
What I've read so far is very instructive

I agree and that is my method to identify as well,
but maybe I mix up sensation and chroma...
