Varying Octaves/"Height"

Postby zacxpacx » Tue Jul 29, 2014 5:24 pm

I apologize if someone has already posted something similar, I just read Dr. Aruffo's (safe to call you that now, Chris?) front page research in which he expresses concern about learning to separate our feeling of "height" from our chroma perception. And he also expresses some concern about forming relative categories, not absolute categories.

The obvious solution that comes to mind is to introduce multiple octaves in APP while keeping the multi-modal distribution of chroma to enforce categorization of chroma and not something relative.

I'm defending next Tuesday (AUGH!) so it's a bit premature, but signs are encouraging.

The octave area expands after level 11.
