Re: Reading experience

Part of it I wrote about in Phase 12 (see July 11)—about how I perceive larger "chunks" than others who look at each individual word. Have you read that part?

Re: Good Relative Pitch can get you through APA

I think it's probably fair to say that you're right, in that the further levels are "just harder versions" of the earlier levels. The increasing levels see the target tone situated in increasingly complex chords and sequences. But scientifically, psychologically, it doesn't matter whether ...

Re: Newbie question

The full program is different from the demo because the higher levels of each game are "unlocked". Once you're using the full version, you'll be able to get past (for example) level 120 on APA, after which you can add more pitches than just C.

Re: Musings on a game that could induce categorical perception

I suspect that might be at least somewhat effective for little kids, but I don't think it would work for older children or adults—even if it did make an impression, I'm not certain that the impression would last outside the game. Conversely, though, I wonder how effective it would be if the player h...

Re: Newbie question

Bruce Arnold argues that you don't need "regular" relative pitch at all: you might find that his explanation is the most complete (despite the heavy sales pitch). http://muse-eek.com/ear-training-one-note-for-musicians-book-with-audio/ Essentially, the point can be stated that "distan...

Re: 5 year old - too late to begin?

When it comes to learning absolute pitch, yes, the 5-year-old is probably out. All the available science points to the critical window of learning being between ages 2 and 5. It wouldn't be a waste of time to try WHaP, because it would provide a solid early approach to musical education, and the you...

Re: categorical perception training

I'm still figuring out exactly what you mean… and while I do, let me post a brief summary of what I see as the target parallel in language. It's been a few years now since I connected the dots between absolute pitch and phonemic awareness. People do not achieve phonemic awareness unless they become ...

Re: categorical perception training

(Well, admittedly, "life" here is deader than it used to be, but it's not a shambling zombie yet.) What do you imagine that this would do, in the listener's brain? Why do you suspect this would be (more) meaningful? I'm not sure I follow, entirely, what you're suggesting, but my memory of ...

That's strange.. I respond to those immediately when I get them. I wonder why your e-mails have not been reaching me?

Upgrades (and re-downloads) are still always free; I've just refunded your order.

That's odd.. I received no notification. I'll check my records... no, nothing, either in e-mail or transaction history. Perhaps you could e-mail me your transaction record?

How peculiar—the image won't load in my browser, either. I wonder if it's somehow been deleted from the forum resources. Oh, wait, no... I see that it's a victim of my having restructured my website.

Ah! I found the original image. Here tis.

Re: Just Ordered

The download information is sent manually, by me—archaic, I know, but there wasn't an easier way to do it with Paypal's setup. By now you'll have received it.
